Winston is a cigarette brand that is produced by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
The brand was launched in 1954, and grew to be the top-selling brand of cigarettes in the USA. It kept the first place from 1966 to 1972, due to the successful advertising slogan “Winston tastes good like a cigarette should.
In the last nationwide study in 2005, Winston cigarettes positioned sixth in market value. Winston is also recognized for its current state of being “additive free” even though the next warning message on their ads says that “no additives in our tobacco does not mean a safer cigarette” which is released of an FTC settlement.
During the 1980s, Winston started to be the most preferred brand in Puerto Rico, most likely as a result of their marketing “Winston y Puerto Rico: No hay nada mejor” (“Winston and Puerto Rico: There is nothing better”).
Since modifying to the new pack design in 2008, Winston has taken out the text “additive free” from the pack. In 2010, descriptors for Winston Lights and Ultra Lights were modified to color-coded descriptors so as to conform to FDA regulation of tobacco products.
