Jeremy Blackburn, JTI’s head of communications, said that the release of Amber Leaf Blonde is intended to capitalise on the development of the Roll Your Own (RYO) market, as well as Amber Leaf’s No.1 status – a success the company is greatly proud of.

“In contrast to traditional RYO tobacco, the blend of which is usually dark in colour, Blonde uses a pale colored Virginia blend to offer a smooth taste. The new product will not only attract present adult RYO smokers, but also the rising number of present adult dual smokers interested in an RYO product to switch to.”

Today RYO cigarettes account for over 1 in 4 cigarettes smoked and the RYO category is worth ?1.7bn and growing. This growth is expected to proceed for the foreseeable future as present adult smokers keep on looking for greater value for money.
